  • Today I returned to my roots...sorta

Many of you don't know that I got my start in professional photography photographing jazz musicians and rock bands. This is how I paid my way through college. Today I returned back to my roots. Chuck Negron and his band were doing an outdoor gig in Bonita Springs, FL just a few miles from my home in Naples. Chuck is a Facebook friend of mine. I photographed him many years ago when he was the lead singer of 3 Dog Night. In my mind HE was the band-anyone even remember the other 2 Dogs ? As this was just a fun assignment I decided to travel light and do the whole job with my wife's little point & shoot digital-a Fuji S7000. I bought this camera used for $ 50 at a swap meet !
The day was perfect, we plopped our lawn chairs in the 2nd row and I just shot from my seat. Chuck and his band (which includes not only his son but also his grandson) were really cooking. Although Chuck is one of the real rock and roll survivors his voice and ability to entertain a crowd of all ages hasn't gone away. What a great way to spend a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in Southwest Florida ! Thanks Chuck !!!DSCF0050 DSCF0043 DSCF0036 DSCF0034 DSCF0021 DSCF0042

  • I photographed a pickpocket last night !

Last night I was photographing another of my corporate events at the LaPlaya Resort here in Naples. There was man wandering around the cocktail party & dinner. I later found out he was the surprise entertainment-the famous Las Vegas pickpocket and entertainer, Bob Arno. He had lifted an iPhone, charge card, wallet & 2 watches from the guests ! This guy is slick and very funny too. He can literally remove anything (including your shirt & tie or underpants !) from your body. The photos here are from his after dinner show involving the audience who by then knew who he was. Check his website & linked blog-www.bobarno.com. I have so much fun photographing these events that I sometimes feel guilty accepting the check....well, maybe not that guilty...I do have the greatest job though ! • Photographed Bruce Hornsby Last Night

Bruce Hornsby played last night at a corporate function last night here in Naples, FL. I was fortunate enough to get to photograph Bruce then meet him for a bit after the concert. Although most of us remember him for his radio hits of the 80's he's very much the working musician today. Besides playing with the Grateful Dead, co-writing with Don Henley of the Eagles and playing with many of the current bluegrass musicians he's also active in the TV & motion picture soundtrack business. He still lives in his hometown of Williamsburg, VA with his wife and teenage twin sons. He admits to taking piano lessons after years of bring self-taught and says he's now 3 time the musician he was in the 80's ! Interesting guy for sure.DSC_6413 DSC_6357 DSC_6330 DSC_6382 DSC_6342 DSC_6336

  • 40 Tips for a Better Life in 2009

I just received this in an email from the widow of one of my best photographer friends, Rob Ruby, who passed away in 08. Great advice for all of us...

    Happy New Year!

40 Tips for a Better Life in 2009:

    1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

    2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.

    3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.

    4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.

    5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy.

    6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2008.

    7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.

    8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.

    9. Dream more while you are awake.

    10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in factories.

    11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds & walnuts. '

    12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

    13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk and let new and flowing energy into your life.

    14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, OR issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive present moment.

    15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.

    16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

    17. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the NEGATIVE BLUES away.

    18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

    19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

    20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

    21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

    22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

    23. Don't compare your life to others'. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

    24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

    25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this situation matter?'

    26. Forgive everyone for everything.

    27. What other people think of you is none of your business.

    28. REMEMBER GOD heals everything.

    29. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

    30. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.

    31. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful to your spirit.

    32. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.

    33. Remember that the best is yet to come.

    34. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

    35. Do the right thing!

    36. Call your family often. (Or email them forever!!!)

    37. Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.

    38. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

    39. Enjoy the ride.. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.

    40. Please Forward this to everyone you care about. May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more, May nothing but happiness come through your door! Happy 2009!
